Hi, i have a gigabyte ga81exp board, i use ide 1&2 for my dvd and cdr
drives, as the board has ide 3&4 ports via a promise raid chip i use these
ports for two ibm deskstar hard drives - i am not using a raid array and
have set the ports to run ata in the bios. I beleive the hard drives will
run faster like this but am not sure? the real reason i did it was to have
all 4 ide peripherals on seperate channels not sharing cables - it all works
well. Anyway gigabyte tell you to instal intel application accelerator - my
question is that it only see's ide 1&2 my dvd and cdr and not ide 3&4 with
the hard drives so is it pointless or is it still doing some good?
suggestions?
thanks

the IAA is pointless anyway. all it does is change some settings you could
change yourself and then take away your option to change them back.

Exactly...the options to enable DMA are gone and it adds just another layer
of reg entries and other crap on your PC.

Ran IAA on a P4B266 awhile back.....didn't care for lack of DMA check box
after installing it. I ran Nero's disk speed check for a comparison and w/wo
the speeds were approx. the same. AFA it not seeing the promise card, I read
on the Intel site there were problems and I BELIEVE there was an update.
