Integrating wireless and wired networks

Hello, I am currently having trouble setting up a home wired/wireless hybrid
network and no-one seems able to help me. I have limited networking
experience so if anyone can help me out, it would be greatly appreciated. In
my house currently I have 3 PC's (one with XP pro and other with XP home Ed),
2 with wireless network cards connected to a Belkin wireless router/modem and
eachother, and another (with XP home Edition) with a wired connection to the
router/modem. My problem is that I am currently trying to study for the
Microsoft XP professional Exam and want to set up a home network so I can do
this. My router/modem recognises all 3 PC's and assigns them a fixed or
dynamic IP address, but I don't seem able to connect from my wired PC (which
I use the most) to the other 2 wireless PC's in the house, eventhough they
can connect to eachother through a ad-hoc network connection. I seem to able
to ping the wireless PC's from my wired PC and recieve a response but unable
to connect using telnet or ftp, as the connection is always refused. I guess
my question is, how can I set up a network so I can access the other wireless
PC's from my wired PC to enable sending messages, file transfer, remote
assistance etc. Do I have to get XP professional installed on my wired PC to
be able to do this?? If I haven't explained myself well, I will answer any
questions. Cheers.

Windows XP Pro is required for the Microsoft flavour of Remote Assistance
(Remote Desktop). All other features should work as well on XP Home as on XP
Pro. And you can use free solutions, such as VNC, to provide remote assistance,
if you wish.

That said, you yet have several hurdles to overcome. WiFi has a lot of
challenges.

Now if you can ping, but can't get higher level services like telnet or FTP to
work, between the computers, you may also have a firewall problem. Either
Windows Firewall or a third party firewall could be a problem here.

And if you have any perceived problems with using My Network Places (aka Network
Neighbourhood) to locate or access any computers, and particularly with WiFi
involved, you need to understand the browser subsystem.

So please do some reading, and ask questions. We'll do our best to answer what
you ask. But ask intelligently.
