Integrating Stereo, PC - links to what's out there

I thought I'd like to start a thread for pointers to info on integrating my home PC with my home stereo/TV ( without buying a new PC
with MediaCenter on it).
More and more it seems that "the stuff that I want to play with" are things like making DVD, music, home video more useful. Like how
to record old home movies to VCD or DVD. Getting old music as MP3's on the PC etc.

So, rather than each of us reinventing the wheel, any good links / info on combining the home PC and the stereo, TV system ?
