Just out of curiosity, is there a good reason why motherboard
manufacturers don't put a layer of insulation (i.e. plastic) over the
bottom of the motherboard?

In case they need to repair the board under warranty, the plastic
would gum up the repair equipment. The top side of the board
gets hot, when they unsolder and resolder components on it.

That isnt normally done with any printed circuit board.

Yes, there are several but the main two:

1) It's not needed.

2) It'd cost more than not having one.
