Recently my XP machine connected to peer-to-peer network
on SMC 8 port router started to behave very strangely.

First, IE was giving me page not found errors after
momentarily showing the web site that I was trying to
view, any web site. I had to close all IE windows and then
it worked for some time.

Things got worse very rapidly. Now I often
get "insufficient system resources exist to complete the
requested service" message when connecting to network
drives.

What does this message mean and what could be the problem
with my machine?

Thank you very much,
alex

This one almost sounds like a virus to me. Are you running
a virus software package on the machine?

Perhaps someone else with recognize the symptom and have a
better solution.

hmmmm.....

There was a similar problem with Windows 2000 that a
service pack fixed.

Aside from suggesting you (if you haven't already) loaded
the lastest service pack, I'm stumped.

Anyone else?

Kevin,

Thank you very much for your help.

I restored my latest backup from PQ DriveImage and
everything works fine now.
No, I did not install SP1 -- did not see a really good
reason to add another 200 plus megabytes to XP system
drive. That makes backup and restore slower and slower.
But maybe I should.

Thanks again,
alex
