I use Windows 2000 and NTFS. Lately I've been getting this message:

The instruction at "0x02a451a3" referenced memory at "0x0014b16c". The
memory could not be "read".

Is this a virus or is my memory defective? I have 2 pairs of 256-MB DDR 400
memory.

To check for bad memory, try running memtest86+ http://www.memtest.org/ for
five+ passes.

I've had that error a few times when a program has been leaking memory.
Does the message specify which program caused the error? IIRC it will be in
the error window title.

Have you ensured that all Windows Updates are applied?
It might be worth running the repair process on OE - I believe you can do
this through it's (Or Internet Explorer's) Add/Remove Programs entry. If
not, search Microsoft's support site for more details.

It could also be a broken message file or something on the file system,
maybe a chkdsk would find something.

This might be a good sign you shouldn't be using outlook express.
I've heard many large companies have banned it's use in their
networks, and some articles have claimed with it's use, and outlook
and ie, the virus problem in the world is much worse.

I highly recommend you see this as a 'sign' and use another mailing
application like eudora(which I use so I can recommend it only).

(e-mail address removed) does have a point on moving away from
Outlook Express - I would similarly recommend Mozilla Thunderbird:

I would *not*, however, ignore the problem you're having. I would track it
