I don't use, nor want Instant Messenger starting up when
I turn on my machine. When I uncheck in the start-up tab
of msconfig, Microsoft Antispy will turn it back on about
a minute later and add a line in the start-up tab. Antisy
tells me that it is making messenger start-up. Any
suggestions??

I don't think so, and haven't seen this on the machines I work with.

The only tie-in I know of with the Windows/MSN Messengers, is with email
clients--Outlook Express and Outlook.

So--I'd like to know more about what you are seeing--it isn't something I've
seen, and I wonder whether you're interpreting it correctly?

If you turn off messenger using msconfig and reboot the
machine, messenger will turn itself back on and add a
line in the startup group in msconfig. To turn off
messenger:

Open messenger
Click the Tools menu
Click Options
Click the Preferences tab
Click the Run Window Messenger whe Window starts box to
deselect it.

Regarding it getting added back in before the machine
reboots, I have never seen that type of behavior before
either. Also, I think it is entirely coincidental that
you have seen this after installing the Anti-Spyware app.
There is no relationship between the two applications.

Use the advanced tools with microsoft anti-spyware and
remove that from the start up list there.
