Instant DPMS on monitor

Hi all

I'm wondering if there is a way to turn on DPMS power saving on a monitor
without having to wait for the usual timeout. At the moment I use the trick
of setting a screen saver to kick in a minute or two before power saving
does, to give me warning, but the main reason I'd like to do this is to jump
straight to power save if I know I'm going to be away for a while.

I'm running a Radeon 9550 using Omega 3.8.291 (Cat 6.08) drivers, with a
Samsung 204B and an NEC E771. The NEC has never liked DPMS so I don't hold
many expectations it will cooperate, but I'd like the LCD to last as long as
possible. Oh, yeah, and am running XP SP2.

Wish someone would write a big book on the things you can do with rundll :)

Thanks

Thanks, that works great on both monitors! Just what I was looking for.
Steve Gibson comes up with the goods, again.

I don't think it actually uses power saving, just cuts the signal to the
monitors - the LCD humms and hars abit looking for a signal, decides there
isn't one and just sits there - after all, it does say "monitor off" not
"monitor standby" but is close enough.

I also found NirCmd which does the same kind of thing, with a little added
functionality
