installxp on new harddrive

hello I have an old gateway pentiumIII 40gb that had widows me on it. i up
graded it to xp pro about ago. well last week it stop so I bought a new
harddrive 320gb WD. I took out the old put in the new put xp pro cd in .It
formatted did set up. doesn't start . it just runs though same set up
again.any help would be great.

Is your copy of Windows XP Professional a full retail copy or an upgrade
version?
What service pack level is it?

Guessing you did a clean installation - did you follow something similar to
the following?

After the install - can you even start in Safe Mode? Can you describe what
*does* happen when booting?

(You aren't pressing any key everytime, are you?)

The huge difference in the size of the drives makes me ask: what size
drive does your BIOS see? The full 320 gigs?
