installing

I am attempting to install the compaq A1000 printer to my computer. I went into Compaq's website and downloaded the new verion for windows xp into my computer. all the files are in there. I can reinstall everything but it won't show that my printer is active when i try to print or when I look under scanners and printers. Is there anything I can do to fix this.

Having same problem trying to install my epson stylus
cx6400-i think my problem has to do with the spooler
subsystem app not running-are you getting any error
messages that have to do with the spooler?
