Are you booting from the XP CD, are you running an upgrade install that
began from within XP or did you format your hard drive and use the 98 boot
floppy for purposes of XP setup. If you used the 98 boot floppy, that is
incorrect. To install clean, you need to either begin installation by
placing the XP CD in the drive while at the 98 desktop and choosing new
install, then when the system reboots and runs setup, you need to delete the
current 98 partition, recreate it and format (all done within XP setup) and
continue installation or make sure your system is set to boot from the
CD-ROM drive, then boot from the CD and follow the above procedure.
