I am trying to install win xp on a custom pc. I press any key to boot
from the cd but the only thing that happens is the cursor moves to the
upper left corner and blinks repeatedly. I've tried using different
cd's, cd drives and also attempted to boot from a floppy. I'm at my
wits end and can't think of anything else. I have an AOpen N250A
motherboard with an AMD 64 3200+ and 512 Mb. The hard drive is IDE. Any
help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Try going into the BIOS,boot priority (or similiar),set the cdrom to 1st
boot device, list the hd as 2nd,save and exit BIOS.Also, make sure the jumper
pins on each device are configured corectly.

Hi,

Two things I can think of:

- a problem with the bootstrap, this may require an updated BIOS. Check with
AOpen for the availability of one for your motherboard.

- you have something misconfigured in the BIOS, possibly timing. If you made
changes to the defaults (like overclocking), try resetting to defaults - you
can always customize after the fact.

Also, make sure to strip the system of any unnecessary peripherals, and
disable any BIOS antivirus detection schemes while installing the operating
system.
