Installing XP

I'm trying to do a clean install on a new system.
However, after XP formats my HD and puts a few new files
on it, it goes thru the automatic reboot and then starts
all over again.

If I change the bios to load from the HD it cannot find an
operating system and hangs. If I set it to load from the
CD then it starts the whole process over again.

How do I get it to pick up where it left off and stop
running in circles?????

1. Does it display "Press any key to boot From CD.."? If
it restarts after formatting, start the installation from
the CD. When it restarts after the installation started,
don't press anything until you see the Windows User
Interface. If you see it, then you are successful.
2. If it doesn't work, just continue installation without
formatting. Replace all the files in the Windows directory.

sounds like a hardware problem, do you need to load specific
drivers for add on cards or devices ?

Thanks for your reply. Yes, i get the message "press any
key to boot from cd...". If i don't do anything the
system will try to boot from the HD and it fails. If I
press a key, the installation starts over again from the
beginning. I have tried to let it just run thru the
installation without touching anything, however after the
automatic reboot i always hit this road-block.

it's always possible. seems like everything comes with a
floppy. i'm giving it one more try tonight. tomorrow
i'll pull everything out minus the HD, video card, cd
drive and motherboard.

it wasn't this hard the last time i installed xp on a
computer. it used to be easy and everything flowed.

thanks for your response geoff!

it can be quite fussy, perhaps also make sure that you are
not overclocking in any way, run computer at "safe" values

If you have common older hardware should not be a problem,
if you have scsi, raid or latest hardware there may be a
specific driver requirement

good luck

You should also try running the compatibility check (from
the CD). This may find the culprit. My system had Norton's
Go-Back hanging up the install.
Just a simple suggestion,
Good Luck
