I was unable to upgrade from ME to XP because the install kept locking up
(even after upgrading the BIOS, drivers etc.). So, I did a new install which
worked. I did not set up a new partition on the hard drive, but I did
install XP in a different folder "C:\WINXP" as opposed to "C:\WINDOWS". XP
is functioning correctly but I need ME back with my original settings. Is
this possible?

By installing WinXP on the same partition as WinMe, you've
corrupted the Program Files folder of WinMe. WinXP has
updated the program Files folder with it's own files thus
WinMe will have issues with that. A re-install of WinMe
over itself might fix it. Not sure.

Hope this helps!

If you didn't convert to NTFS, you can use a Win 98/Me boot disk to fix your
problem.
Boot from the boot floppy and type: sys c: at the prompt. This will restore
your Windows Me. After booting into Me, you can delete the folder XP was
install to an the Documents and Settings folder that XP created.
You can also delete the following files if they exist.
a.. Boot.ini
a.. Ntbootdd.sys
a.. Ntdetect.com
a.. NTLDR
a.. Hiberfil.sys
a.. Pagefile.sys

If you do not have a Win 9X/Me boot disk, you can obtain one from here.
