I'm installing WinXP Pro. My hardware consist of an Asus
A7V8X-X (VIA chipset) motherboard, AMD Athlon XP 1700,
256 Ram, 80 gig HD and a Geforce 2 64 meg Video Card
AGP. For some reason it keeps telling me my hard drive
is damaged or it will not copy certain files needed for
the installation. I have changed Harddrives and CD-roms
even tried a different install disk. Can anyone help me?

You can try updateing the motherboard BIOS. Some BIOS may have not been
100% compatible.

Hi,

Try boot into BIOS and check for the Primary IDE channel settings.
Can you see the Hdd in BIOS and enabled UDMA mode?
I would suggest you to load the default settings and then change the
settings that required; change the CD-rom to be the first boot device then
save and exit setup.
Are you using a 40 Pin 80 wires shielded IDE flat ribbon cable? If not,
buy one. If yes, check if it is faulty or check the connection (the far end
connector is for the master drive and the middle one is for slave)
Have you set the jumper on the Hdd to cable select(CS) or master? if not,
jumper to cable select by using a 80 wired cable.
Also check the IDE connectors and power cable connections, uplug them from
the Hdd and the IDE socket on the mobo then re-connect them properly and
firmly.
Note: a losen or bad connected power cable to the Hdd may cause permanent damages to the Hdd.
Make sure all internal devices including the ram chips are firmly and
properly seated into the slots.
