I really hope someone can help me. Have new laptop w/vista home premium
preinstalled. For compliance reasons (NASD) our company requires XP Pro,
which I've purchased separately to install. Am I understanding correctly that
I'm unable to do this? I can't wipe out vista completely, start from scratch,
and install the XP?

I bought a new machine with Vista installed. I blew Vista away and
installed XP Pro.

I even had to add a 3 1/2 floopy drive in order to be able to install my
hard drive drivers during F6 at Windows XP setup.

Hope this helps. Let us know.

That depends on the hardware manufacturer and whether or not there are
Windows XP software drivers for said laptop.

In general - there is nothing keeping you from booting up with the Windows
XP CD and completely wiping the hard disk drive and installing Windows XP
and whatever other softwrae you need to install.

Still not loading. It says its loading, goes thru all files, says it's
loading windows. then, "setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in
your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly
connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration
is correct. this may involve running a mfg-supplied diagnostic or setup
program. setup cannot continue, to quit press f3." Appreciate any help you
can provide.

Perhaps you missed certain steps...

Did you check with the hardware manufacturer(s) and verify there were
Windows XP drivers for said system?
If so - was there a hard disk controller driver - one that you have to
utilize by pressing F6 in the very beginning steps of the installation and
inserting the proper floppy diskette with the proper driver? Was there
other drivers provided by the hardware manufacturer(s) for Windows XP?

Well, thanks to all who tried to help, but nothing is working. Now vista
isn't working and when i try to boot from xp cd it says bootmgr is missing.
I give up! #@*##*!!!

Sound like you didnt clean install, nor perhaps did you use the F6 option to
install sata/raid drivers from floppy early in the process

What brand and model is the laptop?
Is there a possibility of a usb floppy?

later,
charles....
