My computer died recently and I was running XP Pro on that
one.

I just bought a new system and I am running an OEM Win XP
Home. I want to upgrade to Pro but since it is a new
system I know the activation will fail since I replaced
everything except the floppy, CD burner and DVD.

When I do the install I am going to reformat and reinstall
the OS so I don't want to be stuck without an OS.

I tried to find a phone number to call MS and ask them
what to do but I can't find anything.

Can someone help me?

Thanks

There's a toll-free number to call, and Microsoft will give you a new
activation code.
However, unless you are a high-end web developer, or you are connected to
a large corporate network, then you don't need or use any of the features in
XP Pro. Windows XP Home is not an inferior or stripped-down version of XP.
Its XP code is byte-for-byte the very same as XP Pro. Unless there is
something specific you don't have in XP Home, then why not just stay with
it. You are already running Windows XP. Why upgrade over it with another
copy of Windows XP?

Yeah I seem to be having a similar problem, along with
numerous other people I think but I haven't gotten a reply
yet.

Can you give me that number? Does anyone know what it is?

Actually I do a lot of web database development so I would
prefer to have XP Pro running.
