I have a computer with Windows ME on it and have been
trying to install Windows XP over it and each time the
computer just shuts down.

Do I need to un-install ME before I install XP or what,
would appreciate any help that I can get. Thank you in
advance.

Hi, Dan.

You should NOT need to uninstall WinME before installing WinXP.

You should be able to install WinXP by either booting from the WinXP CD-ROM
or by booting into WinME and running the upgrade program from there.

UNLESS your computer does not meet WinXP's more-stringent-than-WinME
hardware requirements. Please tell us the make and model of your computer,
or which CPU, how much RAM, etc. And, did WinME come preinstalled on the
computer?

HOW are you trying to upgrade? Please tell us each step and exactly where
in the process "the computer just shuts down." And what do you mean by
"shuts down": Does it hang? Or power down? Or restart? Or what?
