I purchased a Toshiba laptop computer last December. It
came with XP software. The salesperson said that the XP
software could be activated on one other computer - our
home pc that currently has ME (ick) installed on it. When
I put the XP discs in the home pc, it reports that it is
not configured for this machine (something like that)and
will not let me download the XP software. Can anyone tell
me how to do this or who I can call? Thank you.

Two problems.
The Windows XP that came with your Toshiba is OEM and can only be installed
on the computer that it was originally installed.

The salesperson was wrong. The Windows XP retail product license allows
installation on one computer.

The message that you are getting indicates that you have problem one.

The salesperson was likely thinking of Office XP retail product which does
have a license which allows installation on a desktop and a laptop owned and
used by the same person.
