Windows XP Installing XP home onto a new H/D

I`ve finally got around trying to install Windows XP home edition onto my new H/D. I`ve got as far of having the opening sceeen of XP but then this error message window comes up and I can go no further. The error message is:

SET Up log file
ERROE:
SXS. DLL:Syntax error in manifest or policy file
"D:\1386\asms\10100\MSFT\Windows\GDIPLUS.MAN on line 4

Error
Installation failed D\1386\asms.Error message:
The system cannot find the file specified.

***

Fatal error.
One of the componants that windows needs to continue setup could not be installed.
The system cannot find the file specified.

And that`s it. Can any one help me in some way please?
What am I doing wrong.
