Hi,
I have just purchased a Dell Optiplex SX270 from an auction (bankrupcy). It
is running Windows 2000 Proffessional, and is password protected on start-up.
I have Windows XP that I would like to install on it, or by-pass the 2000
password. I have a CD/DVD drive for it, but no FDD. Plenty of USB ports too.
Any suggestions on how I could a) By-pass the log-in screen on 2000 or b)
Install XP ??

Do you mean that you need to enter a password before the computer gets to
POST (A bios password) or do you have to enter the password to log on to
Windows?

It requires a Windows Password for 2000.

then that is of no consequence at all. Set your BIOS to boot from CD, insert
the XP Cd and off you go. The W2K password is entirely irrelevant.

Get into the BIOS, set it to boot from CD first, put in your Windows XP CD,
boot from it and delete all the partitions. Install Windows XP and all your
programs. Enjoy.

Thank you very much.
