Installing without a Serial Number

I just watched a video that goes through the Vista installation process. At
one point you are asked if you want to enter your serial number, and warns
that there will be problems if you continue without entering a serial. In
the video, the serial is entered and the process continued to the end. I'm
wondering what happens if you choose to continue without entering the serial
number. Does the install come to a stop? Does Vista install with some
features disabled? Does it become a "trial" version?

Thanks.

Yes. It sets the status to Evaluation and expires after a certain period of
time. However if you purchase a key within the first 30 days you can
activate it and turn it in to a non-evaluation license.
