Hi,

I have installed Windows XP and have right now 4
partitions to my disk...now i`m about to change my
motherboard therefore i will have to reinstall windows XP
but i want keep the sames partitions and don`t want to
loose any of the files (mp3, jpg, etc) that i have right
now.

What will be the procedure to re-install windows XP in
this case???

You should reinstall XP to your C: partition/drive. All data on
drive/partition C: will be destroyed. Therefore if you want to keep mp3
files etc you should move them to another partition or else back them up to
a cd.
To get rid of all the rubbish on the partition/drive you need to reformat
the partition during install. You might find the Win XP faq section of my
website useful. Visit www.freelanceit.glowinternet.com Click the Win XP faq
button and from the list take a look at How do i format my hard drive with
win xp.
Please remember that *all* data on your C partition will be destroyed during
the reformat so backup all files you will ultimately need to keep

You do not have to reformat. Just follow this.
1) Change your mobo and connect everything.
2) Do not try to boot to the desktop
3) Access BIOS and set the Boot Sequence to CD-Rom before hard drive
4) Pop XP CD into drive and reboot the computer
5) Perform a Repair Install of your current Windows installation using the
instructions here "How to Run a Repair Install"
http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm

Just remember not to try to boot to the Desktop before you run the Repair
Install and you should be fine. I've used this process many times when
swapping out motherboards. You might have to call the Microsoft Activation
Center to activate. You will know this if you try to activate and see a
message stating that the Activation Center could not be reached.
