Installing Windows XP

I am having a problem trying to upgrade my friends
computerto Windows XP from Windows ME. Everytime I get
to the screen that asks for the product key number, I
begin to enter the number and all of a sudden I am back
to the first screen that says Welcome to Windows XP. I
ran the program that makes sure you are compatible, and
there was not a hardware problem. I have a HP Pavilion
6736. I have an Intel Celeron 667 processor and 256 mg
of RAM. Any idea what the problem is?

Pat, the obvious question, where did your friend get the WinXP CD from?

Another dumb question, but have you made sure the numlock key was on first?
