I was wondering how you would install Windows Xp
Professional from the command prompt on a hard drive that
has just been formatted.
Is the command line
D:\Setup.exe
or soemthing else

<cd drive name>\Setup.exe is a Windows file for the launcher.

The *real* OS setup file is <CD drive name>\i386\winnt.exe

If you can use a boot disk to get to the CD, you can run this (assuming that
the machine qualifies). You can use command-line switches if you have a
use for them ( IIRC winnt /? will display the switches) You do not need
the 6-disk boot set, just a boot disk with CD drivers.

However, if you have an original, bootable Microsoft XP CD (some OEM CD's
may not be) just set the machine's BIOS to boot from CD, and start the
machine with the CD in the drive. Watch the screen and press a key to boot
from CD.. and you're off.

If this is a reinstall, bear in mind that the installation key may be on a
sticker on the computer case.
