I am go to restore my computer back to it's original state.
I have backed up my files. When I run the quick restore it is going to load
Windows
98. What do I have to do to load Windows XP Professional? Do I deleat
Windows 98 before loading Windows XP? the lastr Time I loaded this program
it would not work and I had to call Microsoft to get it to work for me. Is
there anything I can do to make the loading of Windows XP successfull?

Assuming that you have a retail XP Pro and not an OEM. Start Win98. At the
desktop insert the XP Pro cd. When the splash screen appears start the
Upgrade Advisor from the Other Tasks and make sure you identify and delete
incompatible programs and know which drivers you will need to update.
Resolve the issues then from the splash screen select Install. XP will
upgrade your Win98 installation. Follow up the upgrade by updating
drivers. Visit Windows Update to catch up with patches and service pack 2
if needed.

Colin,
I hope you don't mind if I ask you a question....I was browsing for an
answer and saw your very easy directions to the post.

My problem is a bit unique. I won't go into details, but I have an old
laptop that had Windows Me on it. Windows XP was put on it and because the
system doesn't have the proper requirements, it took FOREVER to load, it was
unusable. I now want to put Windows 98 on it myself, but I don't know how to
go about it.

Can you please explain to me in simple terms how to do this? Do I just
insert the CD? Do I insert it before I turn on the system or after it loads
the desktop?

Thank you in advance!
