Setup won't let me install Windows XP Home Edition even
though Microsoft Upgrade Advisor states my hardware is
compatible. Received a couple error messages 1)blue
screen stating CD cannot be read and 2) file not found or
is corrupt: D:/I386/WINNT32A.DLL. Just purchased this
upgrade as I currently have Windows ME.

Copy the I386 folder on the CD to your hard drive. Then, while still
running Windows ME, double click winnt32.exe to begin XP setup. Be sure to
run an upgrade installation over your current setup and do not format the
partition.

If have the same problem when trying this as you had previously, it's likely
that your CD is damaged or otherwise corrupt. Contact Microsoft Replacement

Greetings --

Unfortunately, the WinXP Upgrade Advisor tests only for
compatibility. It cannot normally detect defective components, except
by failing to run.

Problems copying files or corrupted files during installation are
most often caused by defective or sub-standard hardware; in order of
likelihood, either RAM, the hard drive, or the motherboard. On much
less frequent occasions, a bad CD or defective CD drive can also cause
this.
