Installing Windows XP after Vista

Hi,

I've installed Windows Vista a few month ago. But after problems with some
games, I want to install Windows XP in addition to my Vista, on the same hdd,
but on another parition. Will the installation destroy my Vistas bootrecord?

Yes, but you can fix it with the Vista-DVD typing in the repair
console: Bootsect.exe /NT60 c:
Even you need a 3th-party bootmanager.

It is still advisable to install the latest system last, Vista will not
overwrite an XP system boot files, but will link to them thru the BCD to
give a pain free multi boot. It has been possible with previous systems to
also install earlier systems, also with proper planning.

In your how-to, it would be useful to warn users about Vista activation.
In my experience, expand or shrink system partition is seen by Vista as a
disk drive change and is followed by a new ID identification.
Consequently, new activation through phone call, and in case of OEM Vista
version, canceling of your Vista licence.

Not my experience and the license would not be cancelled by a hard drive
change even if it were seen as a different hard drive. The article is a
clear step by step process that accomplishes what is says it will.
