I have windows xp pro in the C: and i was wondering if
it's possible to install win 98 on another hard disk to
have a multi boot system. the catch is that all my drives
are ntfs.. i understand that i might have to make a fat
partition for win 98, but is it possible to install to an
ntfs disk?

Hi, Kevin.

Not only must Win98's "boot volume" be FAT, but the System Partition (almost
always Drive C:) must also be FAT (16 or 32). Otherwise, Win98 cannot boot
at all because it can't read its boot sector (preserved by WinXP Setup as
C:\bootsect.dos) and its "system files" (C:\io.sys and C:\msdos.sys).

Third-party solutions may be able to overcome this, but the native WinXP
dual-boot system cannot.

For a Windows 98/Windows XP dual boot system you will need FAT32 all the
way. NTFS will not be compatible (unless there is a 3rd party package that
can handle it).
