Hello Sir,

This is Abhishek Badholia from India.
I m working as a Computer Lecturer in an University.
We have purchased around 72 computers from Hewlett-
Packard, X86-based PC.
It has preloaded Windows XP Professional Edition
Opearting System.
The System Information is as follows:-

Operating System :- Microsoft Windows XP Professional
5.1.2600 Service PAck 1 build 2600
System Model:- HP d220 MT(DK847A)
Processor :- x86 Family 15 model 2 stepping 7Genuine
Intel 2.4 GHz
BIOS :- American Megatrendstrend Inc 1.02, 5/9/2003
PhysicalMemory :- 256 MB
LAN Card:- Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller
Graphics Controller :- Intel(R) 8245G/GL/GE/PE/GV
Graphics Controller

The problem is that whenever I m loading Windows 98 SE on
this machine , the operating gets loaded but the machine
comes to halt when the message is displayed "Continuing
to start windows"
This has happened my times during installation. If we
reboot machine, it goes to safe mode.

Plz help me out of this problem. I have also heard from
someone that Microsoft has released some patch for this
problem.
Plz provide me necessary guidance to solve out this
problem

Before you started loading Windows 98, did you format the drive to remove
Windows XP? Or are you trying to load 98 on the same partition? Or have you
created another partition or added another hard drive?

Also, have you confirmed with HP that these computers will have the proper
drivers to support the older OS you've chosen to install?

How do I install Windows 98/Me after I've installed XP?

Hi,

Are you attempting to install Win98 in addition to WinXP, or instead of? In
either case, you will need free space on the drive to create and format a
FAT32 partition. And, unless you are using a third party boot manager, you
will need to ensure that the system is booting from the FAT32 partition (you
cannot boot Win98 from an NTFS partition).

Why are you loading Windows 98 SE? Windows XP Professional is a better
operating system and might be better for your needs?

There is a little bit of learning to do but that shouldn't take very
long....
