Installing Windows 7 to a USB harddisk

Hi,
I'm tryingto install Win 7 to a USB harddisk but I'm getting an error
message saying that Win 7 can not be installed on a USB drive. Microsoft
support people say it could be done, but they would not offer help. Has
anyone an idea?

Just like Windows XP and Vista before it, you can not install the operating
system onto a USB (or any other external) drive. The installation program
won't allow it. What I suspect the MS people thought you were doing is
attempting to install Win 7 FROM a USB drive.
