I've been running windows xp and hate it. I am trying to
install windows 2000 professional and xp keeps disabling
the usability of my disc. How do I get past this and do a
clean install to get rid of windows xp and begin using
windows 2000 again?

Greetings --

There is no "rollback" to Win2K.

If you want to replace WinXP with an earlier OS, you're certainly
entitled to do so, as long as you've purchased a legitimate copy of
that earlier OS. (Although I can't imagine why you'd want to.)

To replace WinXP with an earlier OS, you'll have to boot from the
appropriate boot disk, format the hard drive, and install. There is
no supported downgrade path or technique.

Simply boot from the Win2K installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and/or format the system partition as
part of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the
order of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

Why would you want to do that? Are you using MS-WindowsXP
Home??? In that case you will need to Re-Format and go
forward with something.

You may as well get use to the MS-WindowsXP Interface if
you are using XP Professional.
If you really want to go back to MS-Windows2000 and you
are using MS-WindowsXP Home or Professional then you have
to Re-Format the HDD and start over. Back Up you Data
first.
