I have installed Windows 2000 Server on an external USB drive (by creating
an image of the internal HDD and restoring the image to the external USB
HDD). The bios has been changed to boot from the USB drvie, which is
recognized as a hard disk.
On boot, the USB drive is used, up until the Windows splash screen and then
it blue screens with a "inaccessible_boot_device" error.
I believe problem is that the boot.ini file has not been modified, however,
I do not know what the ARC pathname should be for an external USB HDD -
help!!

Seeing that the Win2000 USB drivers load quite late
during the boot process, I wonder if it is at all
possible to boot off a USB drive. In other words:
To access USB devices, Win2000 must be up and
running, but to get Win2000 up and running, the
PC must read your USB disk . . .

Don't see original posting but in my book OP would be better off using
an IDE drive caddy. Far as I know "NT" won't boot from "removable" drives.

Win2k and XP can't run from USB disk (don't know about 1394)
and it doesn't seem feasible to do so.
