I am trying to install Windows 2000 to an external hard
drive connected through a USB 2.0 connector/case. The
bios reports the addition of the device as a hard drive
and Windows 2000 recognizes it and allows partitioning and
formatting. However, it errors at the install portion of
setup saying that it cannot install to that device. Any
ideas????

Hello,

Booting to a USB device for any Microsoft operating system is unsupported.
Your BIOS may see the USB device and partitions but Windows doesn't load
the USB drivers until after Ntldr, Ntdetect and basic drivers are loaded.
