Hey: A novice here who has been handheld by IT guys all
his computer life. Just got a computer from a friend and I
am trying to install my copy of W 2000. When I turn on the
computer, nothing shows on the screen. I hit F1 and
nothing happens. Monitor works, drives work, etc. What can
I do??! I have eight hours to load the OS, install my
software and get a newsletter to the print shop.

OK, sounds like I can do all but this "setup the bios to
allow the computer to boot from the Windows 2000 cdrom".
Embarrassed - how do I set up the bios?

If you have time, open the motherboard (or computer) manual to the bios
section. Usually means holding down the DEL or F1 key (or whatever) as
the computer boots. There will be a section that allows the user to choose
the boot sequence, e.g., [ATAPI] cdrom, floppy, hard drive, etc. If the
computer is equipped with a bootable cdrom drive, then that option will be
present. Make it the first device in the boot sequence.

BTW, isn't there a Windows 2000 machine nearby? Installing and using
an application is easier than setting up an OS and then putting in the app.
