Hi

I have two hard drives. On the primary disk I have two partitions and both
have win xp installed separately. I now would like to install vista on the
secondary drive.

I have two questions;

1. Would this have nay adverse effect on the two win xp installations on the
primary disk?

2. In future can I move the secondary disk to primary disk location
physically and would the vista and the two win xp still work?

Thanks

Regards

Only problem with that is Windows XP will delete the Windows Vista restore
points. It is a documented incompatiblility.

I would disconnect the XP drive and install Vista.
This is for installing XP after Vista.

The xp drive is the primary drive at present. I just want to install vista
to check it out before actually transferring my real work to it. Think
installing vista on secondary drive will cause problem with xp on primary
drive?

Thanks

Vista is going to take over the boot unless you use a boot manager.
That is why I suggested installing the way I did.

I think what you meant to say is that Vista installs its own
boot manager. Are you suggesting that there is some
drawback to this? I've been dual-booting XP and Vista
in that fashion for some 18 months already with no
problems.

I said what I meant to say.
Dual booting using the Vista boot manager does not offer a good solution to
either of John's questions.
Vista boot will be installed on the primary disk. Vista would not boot if
the drives were switched.

Another point, if the old drive is disconnected, then neither of the XP
installations will be touched by the Vista install. If John had an upgrade
version of Vista, he would not lose one of the XP installations.

Either disk will be bootable on its own.
