All updates forever? Only the most recent? Have you got SP1 to install?
What are the errors reported?

When you say they do not install, do you mean that they cease to install at
some point? or that they still claim that they still *need* to be installed,
even after you've done the routine....

Is that's what you mean, that has happened on several updates over time
(that Windows update thinks you still need them, even though you installed
them ages ago)

If you can see them on the list of Installed Windows Components (in
Add/Remove Programs), then you can keep them from continuing to show up on
the 'need it' list, by selecting the Personalize Windows Update link, on the
left hand side of the Update Window. Just run the Update Scan, then, when
the same old ones show up.... click the Personalize link, and you'll see you
can check the off the list.
After that, they won't show up again.

It this is not what you meant, then please post a follow-up, but include
more information about what's happening (including any errors, etc.)
