Installing Student with Encata 2008 on a Gateway M6750 Laptop

2 different Encarta DVD's will not install on a Gateway M6750 notebook.
Installation starts normally, gets to "copying new files", starts copying
file "SWDLX01.EIT", hard drive light flashes 30 seconds, and installation
stops. Task Manager shows installation as running, but nothing happens, even
after 90 minutes. Computer not locked up. Any ideas? Can't find any
references in Knowledge Base.
