After installing SP2 will I have to reinstall all existing software on
my computer?

Mel Lowe

Hi Mel, it's a service pack so you won't have to reinstall all existing software.

Thanks, TaurArian, That's a relief! I do a lot of video editing
on my machine and am hoping the transition does not alter the
performance of some of the complex software I use. I take comfort in
your answer.
I have the SP2 disc I ordered from Microsoft when first released so
hopefully all will go well. I will check the links you provided and
make sure I do all pre-install work like running spyware programs.

As a precaution - always do a full back up before a major Service Pack.
It doesn't hurt but could save a lot of grief.

Two points:

1. The direct answer to your question: No. Service packs should not
affect any installed software or any data on the computer.

2. Despite what I say above, there are never any guarantees. Things
*can* go wrong, and it's always prudent to be sure you have a backup
of anything you can't afford to lose before beginning.

Thanks to you both for your input. I understand there is no way to
guarantee behavior on any given machine. I will backup what I can and
cross my fingers for the rest. I've taken all the precautions,
updated bios and drivers. I have 3 spyware programs. I will run
them, reboot, run them again, if all is clear, I will reboot and use
the MS cd to install. Wish me luck!
