I am trying to load a new version of a program. The
program I am using has an msi extensio. Part way through
the installation I am asked to remove the existing
program. This I have already done using Add or Delete in
Control Panel. I find I am in a loop in that the program
still keeps asking me to remove the existing program????

Can anyone please help

Hi Martin,

Use Windows Installer cleanup utility and remove the traces of that
application. The correct version of Windows Installer Cleanup utility
(msicuu.exe) is available from Windows XP CD-ROM.

1. Insert your Windows XP CD into the drive and browse to H:\SUPPORT\TOOLS.
2. Double-click on setup.exe.
3. Then when prompted, opt for the Complete Installation and you'll have
Windows Installer Cleanup utility installed.
4. Click on Start > All Programs > Windows Support Tools > Command Prompt,
type msicuu.exe and press Enter.

[This launches the Windows Installer CleanUp dialog window. It displays all
the programs and applications that have been installed onto your PC using
the Windows Installer.]

5. Select the item that's causing problems and click on Remove. All the
program's associated registry entries will be removed from your system along
with its entries under Add/Remove Programs.

Now, try reinstalling the program.

If that doesn't solve the problem, when you re-post, it
might help if you said what program you're trying to install
(not just the extension).
