I dual boot in XP Pro and W2K. is it possible to do a once-only
installation of software like AV and firewall and Office etc that can be
used when booted up in either OS? (I currently install all this software
twice - once in XP and once in W2K). the OS's use a different partition
each (obviously!)

Thanks

No, you must install your programs on each O/S's partition.

Not true. You can install the programs onto a different drive BUT you
will have to install them into each OS.

I run win9x/winMe/w2k/xp/linux. I have a fat32 data drive D:. I have a
fat32 programs drive E: . I install all my programs to E: from each OS.
That way my OS drives are only 3 to 4 gig each.

Your original question was "is it possible to do a once-only install".
No, the program has to be installed into each OS for the registry
entries and the files that get thrown into the Windows folders (I have a
few that are self contained in their own folder, but not many..ah for
the days of DOS programs). BUT if you point each install to another
drive, you can save a LOT of space.

All my OS's access the same data drive & they all access the same
programs drive.
