I am wanting to install Smartype by Stedman's to use in my word 2002 program.
When I go to their website, it says that this program does not work with
Works Suite. I am confused. Is Word part of the Works Suite program or does
it run separate? I was hoping that someone could give me a little
information before I decide to buy the program.
Thanks,
Lisa

It could be that if you run Word freestanding (after disabling the Microsoft
Works Suite Add-in for Word) instead of starting Word from the Works Task
Launcher (or if you install just Word and not Works at all), this will not
be a problem.

The Word 2002 included with Works Suite is the same Word 2002 that was
supplied with Office XP and if the program works with Word 2002 then it
should work with the version you have installed. Looking at the web site, it
appears that it is indeed compatible with Word 2002 and works by means of an
add-in to that application.

You can start Word without reference to Works by creating a shortcut to
winword.exe.

Thanks for the info. My computer came with Works Suite 2005 as well as Word
2002. I do not have to go through Works to open Word. So do I still need to
disable Works or will I be okay?

Works and Word are separate applications but bundled together in a suite and
loosely linked by a dubious add-in. There should be no reason to remove
Works, but if that add-in conflicts you can uninstall just the add-in.
