Let's try a couple of quick tests to get that working for you again:

1. Startup your system in SAFE MODE by pressing F8 repeatedly
while your system is booting up after you've shut down your system

2. Make sure you log on to one of your Administrator's accounts.

Alright then, would you like to try a different approach
to solve the problem?

Sadly, EA do not know much about Windows XP and their game has to be
installed as though it was still the Windows 95 era. That said if you jump
through enough hoops and destroy system security by running as Admin you
might get the rubbish to work, Macrovision's junk addition has a lot to
answer for, it stops purchased copies being used correctly but does nothing
to stop those who really want to steal.

Inspite of being designed for Windows 95 it still makes some heavy demands
on the hardware, make sure that all of your hardware is up to standard and
fully up to date with the drivers before you start.

Install as Admin and make sure that you unload all other programs.

That said and the gripes over, make sure that the disk is not damaged/dirty
and that it can be read by your CD/DVD drive.
