Installing Servicepack 2

I'm installing Servicepack 2 into my laptop. It seems the file copying is
done and the details box says "Running processes after install" but nothings
happening. No disc access; no new messages; nothing. Is this the way it's
supposed to be?

No.

IME, problems with SP2 almost always relate to incompatible software,
perhaps an old version of Norton for example, or maybe a Trojan.

I have reinstalled, without success.
How do I install AVIFIL32.DLL?
