Does anyone here have a line of work or experience in installing Satellite dishes?

I done one in 1999 - and it actually worked :)

That was in, um, Bishops Stortford for a very short Scottish fellow.

Is it just setting the thing up or do you actually want it installed..

what kind of dish was it?

what tools did u use to get signal?

It was round, looked like a huge wok, about a metre diameter and an lnb went in the middle.

At the time I had a professional aerial strength detector, long gone, I'm afraid, I don't do that stuff anymore - I hate heights :D

And for much the same reason I try and avoid CCTV ;)

well I want to get DigitALB sports package, 90 cm dish and a technomate.

I think I could get the dish up on the wall (the motor bit seems messed up), cables running.
the problem is pointing the dish to get the best signal.
I got to point the thing towards Eutel 2 16 Degrees E.
That's the problem.

you know about this stuff?

Sounds like if you want to run a motorised dish and use satellite services other than Sky or Freesat, I would get a pro in to install and setup for you as this kind of installation is a minefield with people I know paying out for someone to come and sort out there homemade installation because they didn't know what they were doing and it cost them more in the end than if they had just got it done properly first time round..

Thats my advice mate take it or leave it..

Just have a look at other peoples dishes and copy the angles, thats what my dad did

Anywho i thought a motorised dish tracked the signal itself?

lol nah Waynos they might not have it pointing where I want to.

i'd have to knock on their door and ask them which sat they are pointing towards ive been looking hard recently

I'm unsure about the motor
i dont fully get it
does it need a dedicated cable?
does it move via the receiver?

I know so far you got to get this dish pointing towards the south or as close to
you then got to set the angle of the motor at the lattitude of my location ie 51.5
the rest dont make much sense right now

Power to the motor usually comes down the cable.
All you need is a compass, point the dish to the correct bearing and move it bit by bit till you get a good signal. This should show up on your tv screen, you might need a patient friend to shout up to you whilst your up the ladder, Or you could arrange mirrors so that you could see the tv screen, this might not be very safe though.
I have a satelite finder beeper that fits in line that you could have for £3.50 inc postage, but you should be able to set up a dish without one.

They do auto track, but need to be pointed in the general direction...Wall mounted can only move 180 degree's in two axis..up-down, left-right....I can't think of the site off hand, but have seen a little gadget that you can purchase which the pro's use to track the signal..Will have a lil head scratch and come back with the answer..

Edit: here is the site I was on about....Although everything is in $$$$ at least you can get a general idea then look on Google

You should not need this.

Have you got a compass yet ?? Point the dish to the correct bearing and fiddle a little. I don't understand why your having problems.
