I had remote desktop installed on my laptop. Somehow I removed it. When I
tried to reinstall it it wants me to insert my CD. I am out of town and do
not have my CD with me. Is there any way I can reinstall the remote desktop
without my CD? When I go to administrative services, the internet
information services icon is missing which is why I can't use the remote
desktop. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The client for a Windows 2000, Windows NT, Windows Me or Windows 9X box? If
so you can download the client from...

If this is a XP machine go to "Start -> All Programs -> Accessories ->
Communications" and tap on the Remote Desktop Connection selection.

Al:

I tried what you suggested and got an error message stating "remote desktop
disconnected" I know that the computer that I am trying to connect to is
connected because I was on the phone with Qwest, my DSL provider yesterday
and he was able to get on to the computer I am trying to get on to. Both
computers are running Windos XP Professional. I am pretty sure the problem
is with my laptop and not being able to access Internet Services Manager.
When I try to add the world wide web service and click remote desktop web
connection it asks for my CD which I do not have available. I was wondering
if there was another way to download this without the CD.

Well, installing IIS on your PC is only if you want to access your laptop
from a remote site. I don't believe that is what you want to do.

Are you sure your calling the correct IP address for the PC your trying to
connect to?

Yes, I'm sure. I actually have a block of 8 static IP addresses for the
office, and we assigned a specific address for me to connect to the computer
at the office.

Where are you trying to connect from? If its a work place, ie.
office/factory/etc, its possible they are blocking TCP Port 3389 outbound.
Have you tried from a public wireless hotspot or hotel or friends house? I
guess your trying to use the web based method or the regular Remote Desktop
client? If its the former try using the normal client versus the web based
method...
