Does anyone know how to install a new software program to
the D drive? My newly installed XP doesn't seem to have
any way to change the install defalt.

The installation default is not used by all installers, some simply
assume that this is C:\PROGRAM FILES. Therefore I would not change the
setting but simply use the "Custom" setup mode when installing new
applications. You can specify a different path here.

Most programs offer a "brows" option when the screen comes up and shows the
default path. Depending on the program, it may say something else. Some
offer no option.

This would be a function of each individual application's
installation routine, rather than the OS. In most cases, you simply
have to select a "Custom" installation and then identify, as one of
the many options available, the target drive and folder. Only poorly
written applications do not allow this flexibility.

Hi Bruce,

The software that came bundled with a new Epson "all in one" printer, I
bought, is an example of those that don't offer any option as to where to
install. The software seems to function correctly but, it is a real space
hog. To save on maintenance time for my OS partition, I wound up using an
application mover to move it to another partition. Very frustrating!

Cheers, JAX
