installing printers

We have some serious problems installing "fake" printers on xp embedded.
We have tried installing the amyuni pdf printer using their installer
and it wont work, then we tried the esker vsi fax printer and that didnt
work either. Most of the times all printers we try their installer fails
for some wierd reason but we can add the printer just fine if we
manually try to add the printer and point it at the drivers or if we
capture the install on regular xp pro and repackage it as a new installer.
We have looked around and all we found was some info about the system
path and some directory called wbem, it made no difference :-(

Any suggestions are welcome.

Hard to help here since you didn't mention anything about the actual errors of the installer(s).

Since it is not driver specific problem (you mentioned you were able to install it manually through Device Manager?).
Obviously, add all the most required components for the installers (Windows Installer Service, Dos Windows on Windows Support,
Application Compatibility Core, etc.).
Also, run the installer on target with Dependency Walker / Profiling to see what's really missing.

After all, you can try XPProEmulation image (www.xpefiles.com) to see if it is all a matter of missing software dependencies.

We get different errors with different installers, amyuni if I recall
says Error Code 126 - The specified module could not be found.

They always seem to talk about modules though.

I will checkout the stuff you mention, and I am very interested on the
XP Pro Emulation, thanks for that.

I added a lot of stuff to the XPE (mostly stuff we had been wanting to
add) and now printers seem to install fine (testing still). I just wish
I would have been able to isolate which component made the difference.
