Operating system is Vista Business 32. Printer is DeskJet882C.
Windows recognizes there is a new device and searches for driver. Error
message appears that it was unable to install driver. I go to HP site and
locate printer and it says driver is already installed on machine. No help
there. I let Windows find a solution. It comes back with a CH341 problem and
points to a download. I download CH341SER which sits in the download file.
When I use option to browse to driver to install manually it does not appear
in hierarchy, although I can find it in explorer by using the start button.
I copied to desktop but same thing occurs. If CH341SER download will indeed
fix problem, how do I get windows to install it if it won't allow me to point
to it.

Is the HP driver Vista compatible? If not, uninstall everything and then on
the Install.exe try setting the Properties--Compatibility tab to XP
Compatible. Then run as administrator.

That sounds odd.

The DeskJet 882c is an old printer, and the Vista drivers that HP recommends
for it are the ones included with Vista.

The CH341 driver is a USB-to-serial one. It's not obvious what that would
have to do with your printer, whether you connect it using the USB or
parallel port.

If you're using the parallel port, I suggest that you try the USB port
instead. (You'll need an A/B USB cable.)

Good luck.

Return address scrambled. Replace nkbob with bobkn.
