We have a Windows 2000 server and a new workstation in our
office now has Windows XP. The XP workstaion is unable to
print to our Laserjet 6P, attached to the server. I
downloaded some new printer drivers from HP that I assume
I need to install, but I'm not sure if I need to do that
on the XP workstation or on the server. I have tried both
to no avail. On the server, I have attempted to "add
printer drivers for other clients" and am asked to select
the environment and op system for all computers using this
driver. Since XP is not even listed, does that mean that
I also need to update Windows 2000 on the Server? What is
the name of the update that I would need? Please advise.

I have run into a similar problem. I found a work around
that seems to do the trick.

Log onto the clint machine with local administrator
rights. Install a fake local printer with the correct
driver. Then log on as the user and install the correct
network printer. The client will use the driver you have
already installed. You can then log on as a local
administrator agian and delte the fake printer if you
like.

Hope that helps.

Get the latest Windows 2000 driver from HP and update the driver on the
print server. (Don't worry about adding for additional clients. Just go to
the Advanced Tab, New Driver, Have disk, etc.) Reboot the workstation
(probably not necessary) and try again.

Good luck.
